It may seem odd for Jeremie Cometto-Lingenheim and David Gingell, the duo behind three hyper hip London restaurants, Primeur, Westerns Laundry and Jolene, to have opened a place in Fowey, but Gingell grew up in Falmouth and they both love seafood (they met at fish restaurant Wright Brothers). And the building they’ve found, a former bank in pretty Fowey, right near the water, was too good to pass up. Now done up (to Jeremie’s design) Shaker-style in simple matt rose and cream, with clay walls and hand-built oak furniture, it offers the pair’s signature combination of artfully combined sharing plates and natural wines. Daily changing menus feature Fowey mussels and other Cornish fish, plus locally grown or foraged vegetables and meat. Fowey is used to London visitors – the late author Daphne du Maurier’s lived here for a while – but it’s safe to say this is something new for the town.
